Greetings fellow Antelope Valley live music lovers. Welcome to Picker’s Roundup, the one stop source for all your weekend entertainment planning needs. Although the focus is primarily on live performance music and the fine musicians that live and play in the Antelope Valley, we will occasionally head out of town to a particularly fun event. So get out and have some fun this week, and on behalf of local performers everywhere, we thank you for your support. There is quite a bit of ground to cover, so let’s get started. Roundup Spotlight. Join us Sunday May 4th, when we pay our respects to one of Antelope Valley’s most gifted and beloved performers, at The Skip Bickston Memorial Celebration of Life and Jam Session.This is also going to be a benefit fund raiser, so bring your wallet. A brilliant and much loved member of the AV music scene, Skip Bickston was a good friend and mentor to so many of the fine players you see featured in this column every week. Rest well good sir, you will be sorely missed. There will be a silent auction beginning at noon. Roundup Tip of the Week: The Santa Clarita Blues Festivalis this Saturday, May 3rd, beginning at Noon. The festival will be held at the Heritage Junction Train Station – Hart Park, and will feature the fabulous Toni Dodd as your Mistress of Ceremonies. A great day in the park Art, Food Trucks, Raffles, Silent Auctions, dancing and Eight of the finest Blues bands in Southern California. See the Event Page for complete details. Saturday the 3rd is the latest installment of the ever popular Cosmic Concert Series with the Highway 138 Band at the Brunswick Vista Lanes in Palmdale. This month’s special guest is Soul’d Out. You won’t want to miss what is rapidly becoming the most popular monthly musical in the AV. The fun starts at around 9:30 and goes until closing.
Thursday 05/01/2014: New Venue Alert !!! The Cosmopolites at Sol Plaza behind the Target Center in Lancaster (near the Goodwill store) from 5 until 7:30. Great music, food, clothes, airsoft guns, posters, hats, BBQ, you name it and they've got it. Come on out and support this new venue. Live Music is the Best Music!

Here’s the deal;Palmdale Moose Lodge is a private club but they are now allowing the bands to invite guests, so just tell the door person you’re with the band and have a member sign you in. The Moose Lodge is always looking to looking to sign new members. The children’s charity “Moose Heart” does tremendous and worthwhile work. Let the door person know you are thinking of joining, and could you get a member to sponsor your visit. The fun starts at 7:00 PM for your dancing and partying pleasure. Get there in time for supper, served from 5:00 until 7:00 (or until sold out) and stay for drinks and dancing! Great Prices, Great Times!

Saturday 05/03/2014: Party and Dance Tonight with Wild Side. Looks like live music is back on at Rancho Vista Golf Course, well, this week anyway, Hope they do well, we need as many live music venues as we can get here in the AV. Wild Side will play from 7 until 10 PM.
Saturday 05/03/2014: Blues Night Out with Boys Night Out. BNO will play for your listening anddining pleasure on the BRAND NEW PATIO STAGEat Julianni’s Italian Ristorante from 7:30 until 11:00 PM in the Lancaster quite pleased to play his guitar and Market Place.

The finest musicians in SoCal gather each week starting at 4 PM to play the finest Blues, R&B, and a touch of Funk at the Best Jam Session for the past 24 Years. When was the last time you danced to pro horn section? I’m guessing it’s been way too long. The $5 cover buys your first drink. You’ll like the way it makes you feel, I guarantee it.
