Picker's Roundup for Friday 05/23/2014

Friday, May 23, 2014

Greetings fellow Antelope Valley live music lovers. Welcome to Picker’s Roundup, the one stop source for all your weekend entertainment planning needs. Although the focus is primarily on live performance music and the fine musicians that live and play in the Antelope Valley, we will occasionally head out of town to a particularly fun event. So get out and have some fun this week, and on behalf of local performers everywhere, we thank you for your support. There is quite a bit of ground to cover, so let’s get started. For more details, click any of the links to open fan pages and websites.

Roundup Spotlight: Neilstock X was an unqualified success again this year. Dozens of Antelope Valley’s finest musicians and bands entertained hundreds of enthusiastic live performance fans, right there in the back yard of AV Harley Davidson in Lancaster last Saturday. The early headline performance was an amazing set by top-shelf blues specialists, Toni Dodd & Southbound Blues. Two stages kept the action non-stop all day long and well into the night. Many of the players pulled double and even triple duty in each other’s bands. Local favorites like NSA, Bullfrog Blues Band, Seventh Switch, Highway 138, Teri Vilani, and Travis Mullins kept the show rolling like a powerful locomotive. The evening headline performance featured the iconic local R&R band; Vagrant X. From Rock to Blues to Country and everything in between, there was something for everybody.  On behalf of the Valley’s live performance music community to all of our fans, let me say thank you for your unwavering support, we could never do it without you!

Picker’s Rock & Roll Pick of the Week: NSA at BeX on the Blvd, Saturday the 24th at 9:00 PM.

Roundup Tip of the Week: Turn the TV Off! Get out of the house and go listen to some live music. I took my own advice tonight and wandered over to the AV Road House Thursday Night Jam. What an unexpected treat. In addition to the usual suspects, recent Antelope Valley arrivals The Fulcos were absolutely tearing the joint down to the slab.

Before I even walked in the door, my ears told me there was something new and exciting going down inside. The Fulcos are a true family band, the likes of which haven’t been seen around these parts in years. Led by the mom and dad team of Joey and Vanessa Fulco, Joei, Jesse, Stevie, and Tyler play with the confidence, passion, and musicianship seldom found in players this early in their musical lives. Stay tuned to this column for more on The Fulcos.CLICK HERE To Meet The Fulcos.

The last time these boys got together, there was dancing on the bar, and it wasn't the patrons!. I also have it on good authority that the boys have an unannounced fourth ' Special Mystery Guest" that will be joining the fracas. I've already probably said too much, so mums the word, okay?  Take my word for it, do not miss this One-Off event of the week!
