Special Olympics Athletes from Cyprus and St. Lucia to Make Appearance Thursday Night on the Square

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s popular Thursday Night on the Square (TNOTS) will hit the halfway mark with the fourth of eight free events this Thursday, July 16, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Poncitlán Square (9th St. East between Ave. Q-9 & Ave. Q-10).

An Antelope Valley institution that is celebrating its 15th season, families can enjoy TNOTS’ live music, enticing food, free City activities for kids and an open-air market featuring specialty items.

“This week’s theme is ‘Home on the Range,’” said Recreation Supervisor Annie Pagliaro. “Round up the family, and take them on a trip to the good ol’ Midwest right here on Poncitlán Square! Kids can create barnyard animal paint stick pals, bottle cap magnet animals and a felt finger puppet farm animal of their choice.”

Music will be provided by country favorites Runaway.

Host Town Palmdale’s Special Olympics Athletes from Cyprus and St. Lucia will be stopping by the Square from 7 to 8:30 pm.

The AERO Institute will present NASA's “Earth Right Now” highlighting airborne science missions on the agency's DC-8 aircraft.

In addition to the music and activities, each week one lucky person will get caught “green-handed” – disposing of recyclable and non-recyclable waste in the proper container – will win a backpack made of recycled materials, courtesy of Waste Management, which will be filled with DryTown passes, treats and Palmdale Amphitheater Summer Concert Series tickets. Last week’s winner was Luke Newton of San Clemente.

The remaining schedule of TNOTS events is as follows:

July 30 | Capes & Crusaders

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, its capes and crusaders! Kids can make a super power photo frame, a flashlight signal with a superhero emblem, and create and wear a superhero mask. All superhero kids should suit up in their favorite gear because this night needs saving! Paint Rockin’ Art at Camp TNOTS. Journey over to ARTown Fusion at Legacy Commons from 6-8 pm.
R&B by Tesserae.

August 6 | Movies Come to Life

Enter the world of animation as we bring some of your favorite film features to life. Kids can “Let It Go” with frozen flubber, “Everything Is Awesome” with a stenciled brick Lego© jar head, and let their imaginations soar “Up©” with a mixed media balloon art piece. Enjoy Washi World at Camp TNOTS.
Country by Jacob Nelson & The Tone Wranglers.

August 13 | Game Board Round-Up

Dust off those old doohickeys and thingamajigs because retro games are making a comeback! Kids can make a Scrabble® piece magnet, stamp funny faces onto wooden discs to create a memory pocket game, and use retro game board art to decorate their own keepsake box. Camp TNOTS will feature Rockin’ Art.
Latin Rock by Boulevard Knights.
