Delivering News in 2013 and Beyond

Friday, October 11, 2013

When we read the news now, we expect three things: the text of the story, multimedia to go with the story, and a community discussion. We also expect the local news to include activities or events we are a part of and we want to be able to talk about it with our friends, neighbors, etc. on the story.

The Antelope Valley is suffering from a lack of a thorough news organization. Entire communities and niches of people are not talked about in the news, businesses remain in the shadows because no one knows of them, and great events suffer from lack of attendance because the residents of the AV haven’t heard of them.

How is MyAntelopeValley going to change that? Our main focus is and always will be on delivering local news to the Antelope Valley. That is our foundation, our core business strategy and our long-term driver of growth. We are not stopping there; we are focusing on three additional tasks in the next few months.

First, we are working with local businesspeople to find out about and tell the story of local businesses. We need help; all of us live in our own pockets of the community and do not go outside of our normal routes to discover new businesses. However, we believe that if you hear of a new business or eatery then you may make a trip to check it out! MyAntelopeValley does not charge to write a story about a local business, so our coverage costs nothing.

Second, our web site and Android apps are being upgraded to encourage conversations on every story. We will be releasing some exciting new features in the next coming weeks for the purpose of building community: a classifieds section, a business listing section, and tools that allow for instant chat conversations on stories between our users.

Lastly, our events section already has more tools than most local calendar web sites – but we aren’t done yet! Soon you will be able to add all of the events on our site on your phone with a syncing tool, invite your friends to the events, and RSVP to an event.

We are so excited for the future. Please join us by signing up on our web site, and feel free to let us know how we’re doing by emailing editor@myantelopevalley.com
