Will people read myantelopevalley?
"Will people read myantelopevalley?" As I have been sharing my dream of myantelopevalley with my friends, there is a common theme in their questions to me about the project. The three most common questions I'm asked are:
1. Will anyone go to myantelopevalley?
2. Why start an online newsmagazine?
3. What if [horrible nightmare scenario] happens?
It took me a while to verbalize my answers, but a light bulb went off last night with a great word picture to describe why MyAntelopeValley will work and why I'm not concerned about traffic or "nightmare scenarios": Imagine you lived in a town where everyone loved hamburgers, but no one served them. There was a craving for it, ever so slight, even though you haven't had a hamburger in a long time. Everyone wanted to taste a hamburger, even if they hadn't tried it yet, because they had heard so much about it. We all gathered together to build a hamburger stand: I bought the grill and the food, and everyone picked something they enjoyed doing (grilling, french fries, preparing the food, etc) and we all worked together to serve these hamburgers. We decided that we were not going to sell them, all of our hamburgers would be absolutely free! Do you think that people would have a free hamburger if it was offered to them? I think so. The hamburger we're offering is positive news about our town, but for the people to have these free hamburgers it's going to take a team to serve it up. That's myantelopevalley :)
