Bob Turner

I have learned in recent years that I am a cyclist, a cycling fan, and sometime journalist, trapped in the body and career of a furniture retailer. Believe it or not there my actually be more cycling journalists than there are furniture retailers remaining at this point.

From time to time and with the encouragement of my wife and Jim Greenleaf, I find myself totally overwhelmed and intimidated...standing in front of honest to God legends in the sport of cycling, as I did this past year at the AmgenTour of California opening press conference in Escondido.

Legends like Jens Voigt, Peter Sagan, Phil Liggett, 2012 World Road Champion Philipe Gilbert, soon to be very famous Lawson Craddock, and a dozen or so others, were about an arms length away. Jens and Lawson even spent some time doing video interviews with me. What a thrill!

For the past two years our coverage and involvement in the Tour of California has become more and more intense. We are right there talking to riders, team management, mechanics, spouses, literally anyone involved in the process. I think we do a very good job of bringing the sport home to local cyclists. And local Cycling has never been more popular in the Antelope Valley.

Thanks to the City of Palmdale for making it possible!

Thanks Jim for your tireless encouragement.

Until NBC Sports calls to offer me a job covering the Tour, you can find me at Aven'sFine Home Furnishings. Right on the corner of Lancaster Blvd @ 10th Street West,in beautiful downtown Lancaster.
